在二十世紀,編織和女性就變成了密不可分的關係。大量的女性主義者以編織作為一種工具去為自由與權利抗爭和表達。另一方面,以編織去為持生計。

雖然在60、70年代的第二波女性主義,為了擺脫男主外女主內的觀念、家庭主婦形象等等,貶低家庭性而抗拒編織。但到80、90年代,年輕的女孩主義者重新思考,重拾編織,女性有自由選擇編織與否,不會因標籤而局限了自我。



在過去十年,世界各地仍然有很多政治性的編織項目,如Pussy Hat Project、城市編織等,作為一種表達政治言論的方式。

The famous turning point that fabric craft associated with women was in the 20th century (Close, 2018) when there are many feminists using fabric craft as a tool to fight for rights and freedom, and on the other hand, earning money in the domestic aspect.

Although feminism’s second wave disparaged domesticity in the 60s and 70s, it made a comeback when the young professional woman think deliberately about setting aside time for leisure and society in the 80s and 90s (Wills, 2007).

In the last decade, there are still many political projects, like Pussy Hat Project and yarn bombing around the world, to voice out their political speech.
