在第一、二次世界大戰期間，女性以針織來記錄一些敵方的重要情報。例如，敵方火車的時間和班次。以摩斯密碼作記錄。在針織當中，上針和下針便代表了摩斯密碼的0和1。

除了以編織作為記錄外，以下為另一個間諜小故事。在美國獨立戰爭期間，女性以「老婆婆就是愛編織」的刻板印象作為武器，在山頂上假裝編織，但實情是在監視英國的情況並秘密地匯報給美軍。

An old lady pretending the knit on the hilltop while actually spying on the British for American soldiers (as cited in Zarrelli, 2017).
